Steve Protulis of Coral Springs, Florida peacefully passed away on April 19, 2021 at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Steve was born in a small town outside of Montevideo, Uruguay and immigrated to the United States in his late teens. He began his career of caring for the welfare of others after serving in the United States Army. Steve’s passion for fairness and equity became a driving force throughout his distinguished career. From his time with the United Auto Workers to the AFL-CIO and his last 20 years as the CEO of the Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation (EHDOC), Steve was driven by an indefatigable passion to advocate for those who needed a voice and he was fearless in his commitments.
Steve is survived by his three children, Robin Sterr, Randy Travis, and Eric Protulis. His son, Danny, preceded him in death. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Sean, Charlie, and John McMahon; Amy Marie Travis; Nate and Ellie Protulis and one great-grandchild: Johnny McMahon.
A private service will be held for immediate family and a Celebration of Life Event will be scheduled at a later date in coordination with EHDOC.
